Engineering support for motor and controller sourcing
Our UK engineering team helps customers source EV motor and controller packages for conversion projects and utility equipment. Start with the installation requirement or an existing reference. We can help define the hardware, obtain pricing and supply options, coordinate delivery and discuss the after-sales support required for the project.
The RIFT Motor Solutions catalogue contains published car, boat and motorcycle conversion listings. These identify package-level starting points, not universal conversion approvals. Ask for the current contents, full motor and controller references and the documentation relevant to the selected configuration.
Compare continuous and peak requirements
A peak power figure does not establish the continuous duty available in a vehicle or vessel. The thermal arrangement, operating conditions and demand profile need to be considered with the motor and controller. Record what is known and ask for the outstanding requirements to be identified rather than substituting an advertised peak for an engineering duty.
For a replacement or retrofit, identify the mechanical and electrical interfaces that must remain. State which equipment is already specified and who is responsible for the overall integration. A motor, controller and accessory package can simplify procurement without removing the need for an installation review.
Vehicle, marine and utility applications
Utility vehicle electrification includes enquiries for mobile industrial equipment, ground-support operations and engineered retrofits. Marine installations need their own thermal, environmental and documentation review. A motor associated with a boat conversion package is not automatically a submerged thruster.
AI-assisted or autonomous platforms introduce a supervisory control requirement in addition to the traction equipment. A communication interface does not by itself provide navigation or a complete vehicle control system. Explain which functions belong to the motor controller and which are provided elsewhere in the system.
Prepare a quotation that covers the installation needs
Include the intended application, available supply, operating duty, cooling method, quantity and target date. Ask whether the requirement is motor-only, motor and controller, or a defined conversion package. Identify required accessories, drawings and integration support alongside the hardware.
Request pricing and sourcing, use the EV configurator, or request technical documents. Supply, installation, commissioning and approval responsibilities should be agreed for the specific project before equipment is ordered.
Where ev motors and conversion packages are used
What we need to know to specify ev motors and conversion packages
These are the questions an applications engineer works through first. Approximate answers are fine: ranges narrow the options quickly, and we confirm the details with you.
- Application: Vehicle retrofit, Marine propulsion, Utility EV, Industrial mobile platform
- Continuous power: Under 10 kW, 10–30 kW, 30–100 kW, Over 100 kW, Not known
- Cooling: Air cooled, Liquid cooled, To be agreed
- Requirement: Motor only, Motor and controller, Conversion package, Engineering review
We also ask about the environment (washdown, outdoor, subsea, ATEX, vacuum, shock and EMC), annual quantities and timescale, because these decide whether a standard, modified or custom design is the best fit.
