In short:Start with the exact Copley Controls configuration and the machine requirements. Original sourcing and a change to another system need different technical and commercial checks.

Packaging is part of the specification

A Copley replacement may involve a panel drive or a drive module designed into a machine’s electronics. Identify the complete model, interface and mounting arrangement. A drive module cannot be compared with a panel unit by current and voltage alone; connectors, heat transfer, I/O and the carrier-board design can change the project substantially.

The catalogue includes Xenus PLUS and Accelnet PLUS entries. These are starting points for identifying the installed family, not proof that another manufacturer supports its complete feature set or software environment.

Capture the functions actually used

Record motor type, winding, current definitions, feedback devices, external encoder inputs and control modes. Identify the controller, fieldbus, synchronisation and local motion functions used by the machine. Preserve setup files and note any application behaviour stored in the drive itself.

A replacement proposal should state which interfaces are supported, what needs adapting and what evidence confirms the combination. ADVANCED Motion Controls publishes third-party compatibility resources, but those resources themselves explain why exact compatibility still needs checking.

Check thermal and electrical assumptions

A compact unit can depend on a particular mounting surface, airflow or heatsink. Continuous current at one thermal condition does not automatically apply inside a different enclosure. Include ambient temperature, cooling and allowed board or cabinet space.

For multi-axis or regenerative systems, record the supply arrangement and deceleration duty. Additional logic supplies, braking components and cable adaptations can affect the usable package cost. Safety-related functions and the machine’s validated behaviour need a specific review rather than a category-level substitution.

Request an alternative drive review

Send the full Copley code, motor and encoder data, controller, application duty, quantities and timing. We can discuss original sourcing and suitable supply-network ranges, including Motion Control Products options where the technical requirements support them.

The compatibility service and PCB-mount drive guide help frame the enquiry. A shortlist identifies options to investigate; it does not authorise a pin-compatible or software-compatible replacement claim.

Each row compares the highest published figures for the series. A match here is a starting point: an engineer confirms the fit for your load, duty, mounting and interface before recommending anything.

Frequently asked questions

Can you source the original Copley Controls part?

Send the full model code, quantity and required date. We can investigate the sourcing route and confirm availability, supply condition and terms for the exact item.

Is a listed alternative a guaranteed equivalent?

No. Published series figures identify candidates for review. Exact model, installation, feedback, controller, firmware and mechanical fit must be checked before recommending a replacement.
